Bruce is the start of my journey in Australian Shepherds and I couldn't have asked for a better start in the breed. He absolutely loves to show and is a big moving boy who knows when to bring on his A Game. But he is also a clown and can't help but make me smile.
Our show journey started in September 2021 when he won Best Puppy in Show at the Australian Shepherd Club of the UK Championship Show at just 6 months and at his 2nd show, under Meg Purnell-Carpenter. At 7 months, he was Best Puppy at both SKC Shows, beating litter mate Kimba. At 9 months he was Reserve Best Dog, Best Puppy and Puppy Group 3 at Boston Championship Dog Show and at Manchester Best Puppy Dog, plus many Open Show Best Puppy Awards, including Adult Group 3 at Worcester & Malvern.
At 13 months, he was Best of Breed at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Wales (no CC's) under Tom Johnson then a Group Shortlist from Keith Baldwin. He was awarded his Junior Warrant at 15 months and in December 2022 was Group 4 at Bridlington & DCS Open Show.
2023 saw many Best of Breeds at Open Shows, with a Group 2 at Sheringham and Group 3 at Boston but this was the year he started making his presence felt at Championship Shows. His first RCC was at Manchester under Alyson King, his 2nd at Windsor under Paul MacClure, then at Paignton under Krystyan Greenland, Welsh Kennel Club under Sigurd Wilburg and at Richmond under Patsy Hollings. He was also Best in Show at ASCUK's Open Show under Pete Longhurst. He finished the year with his first Group win at Bridlington
2024 started with a bang with Group win #2 at Coventry Ladies Kennel followed by #3 3 days later at Worcester and Malvern. G1 #4 followed at Herts & Essex Borders and this time he went Best In Show, under Susan Reilly (Breed & Group) and Krystyan Greenland. G1 #5 was won at Banbury with #6 at Ridding & DCS. This gave him his final points for his Show Certificate of Excellence, my first ever. A busy summer followed at Championship shows where he was normally well placed. In August, Group win #7 at Norfolk & Norwich with #8 at Stafford Canine on route to Belfast where he won his first CC under Roxanne MacDonald, making history as the first Australian Shepherd to win a CC in Ireland. #9 was won at Selby Canine Society with Best in Show #2 - what a year!
